Gwangju Bank Hosts Traditional Market Shopping Event for Chuseok Holiday
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jong-wook) announced on the 15th that it held a traditional market shopping event at Mudeung Market in Juwol-dong, Nam-gu, to celebrate the Chuseok holiday.
Gwangju Bank, which has held traditional market shopping events every holiday, organized this year's event to revitalize local traditional markets that have been hit hard by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn.
The ‘Cheer Up Traditional Market Children’s Market Tour’ program, designed for children accustomed to large supermarkets to explore traditional markets, purchase items themselves, and make payments, was held with only essential personnel attending, including President Song of Gwangju Bank and two representative children. The children had a meaningful time experiencing both fun and economic learning simultaneously.
Additionally, Gwangju Bank’s university student ambassadors conducted volunteer activities by purchasing goods on behalf of families struggling to shop for Chuseok due to difficult financial circumstances. President Song met with market merchants facing difficulties due to the economic downturn and a decrease in customers to listen to their concerns and offer encouragement.
Before the shopping event, Gwangju Bank delivered 10 million won worth of Onnuri gift certificates to economically disadvantaged single-parent families in the region through the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation Gwangju Regional Headquarters.
President Song of Gwangju Bank said, “We held this event hoping that the traditional markets, which are going through a more difficult time than ever due to the impact of COVID-19, will regain vitality through the interest of local residents. Gwangju Bank will do its best to fulfill its role as a representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam by continuously carrying out social contribution activities and financial support to revitalize the local economy and spread a culture of sharing.”
