Hwasun-gun Provides 'Care Services' for Elderly Living Alone
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 15th that it will provide care services for elderly people living alone until the 24th.
This year’s Chuseok is expected to deepen the isolation and depression of elderly people living alone due to the social atmosphere of refraining from visiting hometowns, following the implementation of social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 that has continued since last year.
Accordingly, the county will promote protection measures in cooperation with Hwasun-gun, towns and townships, and care service agencies for 3,112 elderly people living alone to ensure there is no care gap during the holiday period.
In addition, for elderly people who have difficulty carrying out daily activities, customized elderly care services and the Elderly Guardians Group will be used to check on their well-being at least three times before and after the holiday.
As part of the emergency safety and security service project for elderly people living alone, pre-inspection of in-home equipment (fire detectors, motion detectors, emergency call devices), intensive monitoring during the holiday period, and meal delivery services for elderly people with mobility difficulties will also be carried out.
To prepare for emergency situations for each project, an emergency contact network will be established to respond to emergencies.
A county official said, “We hope that elderly people who are going through physically and mentally difficult times due to COVID-19 will have a healthy Chuseok holiday,” and added, “We will do our best to discover target individuals and develop programs to prevent any blind spots in care.”
