Lee Jae-myung's 'Top 12% Gyeonggi-do Residents Disaster Relief Fund' to be Paid After Chuseok... 2.54 Million People
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The disaster relief fund payment for the top 12% of Gyeonggi Province residents, promoted by Governor Lee Jae-myung, will be made after Chuseok.
On the 15th, the Gyeonggi Provincial Council held the final plenary session of the 354th extraordinary meeting and approved the "Gyeonggi Province 3rd supplementary budget," which includes the "disaster relief fund for all residents" (3rd disaster basic income of 634.8 billion KRW) promoted by Governor Lee Jae-myung.
The 3rd disaster basic income is a payment of 250,000 KRW per person in local currency to the top 12% income residents of Gyeonggi Province who were excluded from the government's 5th disaster relief fund (COVID-19 coexistence national support fund).
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province will pay 250,000 KRW per person to 2.54 million high-income residents and household members (including 16,000 marriage immigrants and permanent residents) excluded from the government's national support fund. The payment is expected to be made after Chuseok.
This is because it takes time to complete follow-up preparations such as approval by the Basic Income Deliberation Committee, agreements with card companies for business consignment, and classification of eligible residents. Considering this, the province expects the disaster relief fund payment to be made at the end of this month or early next month, after Chuseok.
On the same day, the Provincial Council amended and approved the supplementary budget totaling 37.6531 trillion KRW, with an increase of 85.3 billion KRW in the general account and 160 million KRW in the special account.

In his closing remarks, Jang Hyun-guk, chairman of the Provincial Council, aware of the controversy over the appropriateness of the disaster relief fund payment target for all residents, said, "Although there were many debates, it is the role of the council and its members to share and align opinions through standing committees, budget and accounts committees, and plenary sessions to produce better results for the residents regarding a single policy issue." He added, "The success or failure of the policy is for the residents to judge after time has passed."
