Naju-si Wins 'Excellence Award' at Life Love Challenge Contest
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyeok] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 14th that Sadong Village in Gongsan-myeon won the Excellence Award at the ‘2021 Life Love Challenge Contest’ held to commemorate Suicide Prevention Day (September 10).
The contest was held from the 17th to the 31st of last month, hosted by Jeollanam-do and organized by the Jeollanam-do Regional Mental Health Welfare Center, to change perceptions about extreme choices and to spread a culture of respect for life.
The challenge participation involved village residents taking the lead in holding placards and banners with life love-related phrases and suicide prevention logo songs (It’s Still Okay), taking photos, and submitting them.
About 30 people including residents of Sadong Village in Gongsan, police officers, and staff from the Naju City Mental Health Welfare Center opened umbrellas inscribed with each letter of the phrase “It’s Still Okay, Hearts Together” to form a heart shape, expressing the meaning of life love, winning the Excellence Award and a prize of 700,000 KRW.
The city produced challenge participation videos of residents from Gongsan Sanggu Village and Sanpo Maseong Village, who also participated in this challenge contest along with Sadong Village, and posted them on the city hall’s YouTube channel.
The videos include the preparation process of city hall staff for the challenge, interviews with village residents about their participation impressions, and photos.
A health center official said, “Through this activity, we hope to spread a culture of respect for life by promoting prevention of extreme choices and improving awareness of mental health,” adding, “We will actively promote preventive projects for the mental health of local residents, such as life guardians, mental health screening tests, and management of high-risk groups for extreme choices.”
