Moon, New Board of Audit and Inspection Chief Nominee Choi Jae-hae, Former BAI Official (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Choi Jae-hae, a non-standing auditor of LS Cable & System and a former member of the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), has been appointed as the new head of the BAI. If finally appointed, the position of BAI chief, which has been vacant for over two months since former chief Choi Jong-hyung resigned on June 28, will be filled. The Blue House stated that the appointment was made to "strengthen the independence and political neutrality of the BAI."
Park Soo-hyun, Chief of Public Communication, announced on the afternoon of the 14th, "President Moon Jae-in has nominated former BAI board member Choi Jae-hae as the candidate for the head of the BAI today."
Born in 1960, the new candidate Choi graduated from Dongguk University High School affiliated with the College of Education, majored in Public Administration at Sungkyunkwan University, earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Seoul National University, a master's degree in Policy Science from Indiana University in the United States, and a doctorate in Public Administration from Sungkyunkwan University.
A 28th-grade civil service examination passer, he served as Director of Planning and Management, First Deputy Secretary-General, and Board Member at the BAI, and is currently serving as a non-standing auditor at LS Cable & System.
The Blue House stated, "Candidate Choi is an audit expert who has held key positions such as Director of Planning and Management and First Deputy Secretary-General, and served as a board member. He is highly regarded both internally and externally for his extensive experience and expertise in audit administration, rational leadership that performs duties according to laws and principles, and excellent organizational management skills."
It added, "Based on his balanced insight and outstanding work capabilities accumulated during his tenure at the BAI, he is expected to strengthen the independence and political neutrality of the BAI through strict and fair audit operations that meet the public’s expectations, and contribute to realizing a trustworthy public service society."
