[AK Poll] One-on-One Race Yoon Seok-yeol > Lee Jae-myung, Both Lose Support to Hong
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] In the upcoming presidential election, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol was found to be ahead of Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung in approval ratings.
According to a public opinion poll conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting on the 11th and 12th targeting voters nationwide aged 18 and older, in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup between Governor Lee and former Prosecutor General Yoon, Yoon led with 46.4% compared to Lee's 37.6%. Other candidates accounted for 9.7%, and 6.3% responded with none or unsure.
The gap in approval ratings between the two candidates widened compared to the previous survey. In the third week of August, Yoon's rating rose by 0.9 percentage points, while Lee's dropped by 3.1 percentage points. Yoon's main support base was among people in their 20s and those aged 60 and above, with strong support in Seoul, the Chungcheong region, Daegu-Gyeongbuk, and Busan-Gyeongnam areas. On the other hand, Lee received high support from people in their 40s and the Honam region.
By party support, 69.5% of Democratic Party supporters backed Lee, while 79.1% of People Power Party supporters supported Yoon. This reflects a decline in consolidation compared to the previous survey, which is analyzed as a result of rising support for People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo.
