Ministry of Economy and Finance "Expecting Increase in National Support Fund Recipients... Active Relief Plan"

[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Ando-geol, Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, stated regarding the COVID-19 Coexistence National Support Fund, "It is expected that the number of beneficiaries may increase beyond the government's initial estimate."
On the 13th, Vice Minister Ando visited the National Support Fund Call Center at Sejong City Hall and the Sodam-dong Administrative Welfare Center in succession, stating, "We plan to actively provide relief through appeals."
Earlier, on the 30th of last month, the government projected that approximately 20.18 million households, about 87% of all households, are eligible for the National Support Fund, and with additional relief cases through appeals, nearly 88% of the population is expected to receive the support.
Vice Minister Ando explained, "There is no change whatsoever in the selection criteria for National Support Fund recipients from the government policy announced on the 30th of last month," but added, "However, appeal procedures related to household composition changes and income adjustments for regional insurance subscribers are underway, and we plan to accept them as much as possible if there are reasonable grounds during this process."
According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, as of the 12th, a total of 107,000 appeals related to the National Support Fund have been filed on the online National Petition platform. Among these, 38,000 appeals concern changes in family composition, and 44,000 relate to income changes.
Accordingly, the Ministry expects the number of beneficiaries to increase beyond the government's estimate of 87%.

Meanwhile, during the distribution of the nationwide emergency disaster relief fund last year, the government received a total of 396,000 appeals, of which 340,000 cases (85.9%) were accepted.
