According to Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office and Jeonbuk Police Agency on the 13th, Mr. A (69) was found in cardiac arrest around 2 a.m. at Jeonju Prison. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but ultimately passed away.
Before his death, Mr. A reportedly left a suicide note expressing feelings of injustice. The note is expected to be delivered to the bereaved family.
The prosecution plans to investigate the specific circumstances of the incident and the cause of Mr. A's death.
Mr. A is accused of killing a woman in her 30s, Ms. B, at a lodging facility in Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, around 8 p.m. on the 15th of last month, and then disposing of her body near Yeongamho Lake, about 30 km away.
After receiving a missing person report from Ms. B's family, the police launched an investigation and identified Mr. A as a prime suspect on the 24th of last month. He was urgently arrested and detained.
During the investigation, the police secured CCTV footage from the lodging facility showing Mr. A entering with Ms. B, then later moving alone while dragging a sleeping bag and pushing it into the back seat of a vehicle.
Ms. B's body was found on the 1st in the upper reaches of Yeongamho Lake, Jeollanam-do. The police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.
However, during police questioning, Mr. A denied the charges, stating, "I did not commit murder." Nevertheless, the police concluded that Mr. A committed the crime amid a financial dispute with Ms. B and transferred him to the prosecution in custody on the 2nd.
