Jung Eui-sun: "Robotics is for Humanity... Job Reduction Will Not Be Significant"
Chairman Jeong Attends National Assembly Mobility Forum Robotics Seminar
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, said on the 13th regarding the robotics industry, one of the group's three major business pillars, "As many people worry, there will not be a significant decrease in jobs."
Chairman Chung attended the National Assembly Mobility Forum seminar held at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang under the theme "The Future of Mobility for Humanity, Robotics," and stated, "Accelerating investment and research and development (R&D) in robotics technology is for the comfort of our descendants and humanity."
He added, "Robotics is not an end in itself but a means for humans," and said, "We will steadily develop it with a focus on safety and other aspects going forward."
Robotics is a business sector previously identified by Hyundai Motor Group as one of the group's three major business pillars alongside the automobile business and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) business. In fact, Chairman Chung personally invested 249 billion KRW of his own funds to acquire a 20% stake in the robotics company Boston Dynamics, showing his dedication to the robotics business.
Considering concerns that the robotics industry might lead to a reduction in future jobs, Chairman Chung said, "Robots will replace many tasks that are difficult for humans to perform, and more software experts and engineers will be needed to maintain, repair, and program those robots."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group, through the acquisition of Boston Dynamics completed in June, is not only enhancing its own robot development capabilities but also actively exploring ways to create synergy with future growth engines such as autonomous vehicles, UAM, and smart factory technologies. Additionally, the group plans to utilize robotics technology in manufacturing, logistics, and construction sectors within the group. Hyundai Motor Group's vision is to create a new value chain using robotics, from robot parts manufacturing to building smart logistics solutions.
