Monorail Operating Normally Since the 1st, Fare 2,000 Won

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] On the 13th, Jeonnam Gangjin-gun announced that on the 10th, Gangjin Gaudo Monorail and Suspension Bridge completion ceremony was held with about 40 attendees including County Governor Lee Seung-ok, County Council Chairman Wi Seong-sik, county council members, heads of related organizations, and residents.

The completion ceremony was held in strict compliance with quarantine rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19, proceeding in the order of opening, progress report, commemorative speeches and congratulatory remarks, opening declaration, and commemorative tree planting.

The Gaudo Suspension Bridge was constructed with a project cost of 4.2 billion KRW, installed with a width of 1.8m, length of 150m, and height of 15m, and opened on July 15. It is linked to the Gaudo trail course boasting pristine natural scenery, offering thrills and enjoyment.

The monorail was built with a project cost of 4 billion KRW and is available from Gau Naru to Cheongja Tower located at the island’s summit to improve accessibility and convenience for transportation-vulnerable people. It is 264m long, operates two 30-seat vehicles at 15-minute intervals, and takes about 5 minutes to reach Cheongja Tower.

Tourist Kim Young-pil (67) said, “When I visited Gaudo before, I was disappointed because I couldn’t climb to the summit due to leg pain,” adding, “With the monorail installed, I can comfortably go up the steep summit and enjoy the Gaudo scenery at a glance, which is wonderful.”

County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “Thanks to the interest and cooperation of many people, we were able to successfully complete and open the Gaudo Monorail and Suspension Bridge,” and added, “We will further accelerate efforts to make Gaudo a representative stay-type tourist destination on the southwest coast by linking Gaudo’s excellent natural scenery and various experiential attractions.”

Meanwhile, the Gaudo Monorail completed its pilot operation from July 17 to August 31 last month and has been in normal operation since the 1st of last month. The fare is 2,000 KRW for adults.
