Yoon Seok-yeol's Suspension Cancellation Lawsuit, Final Hearing Completed... Verdict Expected Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The trial for the lawsuit filed by former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, seeking to cancel the two-month suspension penalty imposed on him during his tenure, against the Ministry of Justice will conclude this week.
According to the legal community on the 12th, the Seoul Administrative Court Administrative Division 12 (Presiding Judge Jeong Yong-seok) will hold the third hearing on the 16th for the lawsuit filed by former Prosecutor General Yoon against the Minister of Justice, requesting the cancellation of the disciplinary action.
Since administrative lawsuits do not require the parties to appear in court, it is expected that former Prosecutor General Yoon will not attend the hearing. Instead, Yoon's side plans to submit statements and other materials, including a testimony from former Deputy Chief of the Public Trial and Litigation Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Noh Jeong-hwan (currently Chief Prosecutor of Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office), to the court on the 16th. In response, the Ministry of Justice is known to present a testimony from former Chief of the Criminal Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Kim Gwan-jeong (currently Chief Prosecutor of Suwon High Prosecutors' Office), as evidence.
Once the hearing on the 16th concludes, the court is likely to deliver its verdict next month.
Previously, former Prosecutor General Yoon was suspended from duty in November last year, and a month later, the Prosecutor Disciplinary Committee under the Ministry of Justice, led by former Minister Choo Mi-ae, imposed a two-month suspension penalty on him.
The Prosecutor Disciplinary Committee disciplined Yoon citing reasons such as the creation and distribution of documents analyzing major case trial panels, obstruction of inspection related to the Channel A case, interference with the investigation of the Channel A case, and conduct damaging the dignity related to political neutrality.
