10 Additional COVID-19 Cases in Gwangju with 'Unknown Infection Routes'
All Students and Staff at Nam-gu Elementary and Middle Schools Test Negative in Comprehensive Screening
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] In the Gwangju area, 10 people, including confirmed cases with unknown infection routes, tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 12th, as of 2 p.m. that day, 10 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, classified as numbers 4441 to 4450. Among the total cumulative 4,450 cases, 341 are currently in isolation and treatment.
Among them, 5 people showed symptoms and underwent diagnostic testing, representing confirmed cases with unclear infection routes. Additionally, one person related to foreign worker employment sites (case 4442), one person related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu (case 4444), one person related to a logistics center in Gwangsan-gu (case 4448), and two people related to previously confirmed cases (cases 4446 and 4450) tested positive.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to full-scale testing at foreign worker workplaces has increased to 77, and the cumulative confirmed cases related to group infections among foreigners in Gwangsan-gu have risen to 175.
Meanwhile, on the previous day, the 11th, one person (case 4425) at an elementary school in Nam-gu and one middle school student (case 4426) tested positive. They reportedly attended classes from a foreign academy instructor (case 4402) who was infected through an acquaintance.
The quarantine authorities conducted full-scale testing on a total of 1,145 students and staff at the elementary and middle schools, and except for the index patient, all tested negative.
Both schools will switch to remote classes until the 24th.
