Democratic Labor Union Holds Solo Protests Nationwide Ahead of Next Month's General Strike... Over 700 Participants
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held one-person protests across the country, including Yeouido in Seoul, ahead of the nationwide general strike scheduled for next month.
On the 11th, union members participating in the one-person protests each held banners related to the general strike while watching the KCTU resolution rally broadcasted on YouTube.
The KCTU is planning a large-scale general strike on the 20th of next month, aiming for the participation of all 1.1 million union members.
Yang Dong-gyu, Vice Chairman of the KCTU, said at the online resolution rally, "We strongly urge the National Assembly to pass legislative demands to block restructuring and layoffs, and call on the government not to stand idly by."
He added, "We must vigorously proceed with the general strike under the slogans of crushing restructuring, guaranteeing national jobs, and nationalizing companies receiving public funds."

A police official stated, "There were no clashes between union members and the police," and added, "We will comprehensively review social distancing and the number of participants in the one-person protests to determine if there is any illegality."
