Japan's New COVID-19 Cases Drop Below 10,000 Again After Four Days

Cumulative Infections Over 1.62 Million, Deaths Recorded at 16,721
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] The number of new daily COVID-19 cases in Japan has fallen below 10,000.
According to NHK data as of 6 p.m. on the 10th, a total of 8,892 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed across Japan, including 1,242 in Tokyo. This is the first time in four days since Monday the 6th (8,234 cases) that Japan's daily new infections have dropped below the 10,000 mark.
The cumulative number of infections has surpassed 1.62 million as of this day, and the death toll increased by 69 in one day to reach 16,721. The number of severe patients receiving treatment such as ventilator support was identified as 2,125.

Norihisa Tamura, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, said at a press conference on the day, "The number of new infections is showing a decreasing trend nationwide," and added, "If this trend continues, it is expected that the state of emergency imposed in Tokyo and other areas can be lifted by the end of this month."
