Changwon City Promotes 'Carbon Neutrality' Campaign Led by Residents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Changwon City in Gyeongnam Province is engaging local residents at the village level to conserve the natural environment and carry out climate change response activities in order to practice the global agenda of '2050 Carbon Neutrality.'
According to the city on the 10th, the Carbon Neutral Village initiative is a campaign where residents themselves take action to overcome the climate and environmental crisis and transform their village into a sustainable community.
The main projects include planting ground cover plants along streets to mitigate urban heat islands, installing cool roofs, creating urban vegetable gardens, promoting bicycle riding to improve air quality, cultivating village forests, and conducting climate action practice campaigns.
Additionally, to create an urban ecological environment, the city is implementing bird collision prevention tape attachment, releasing fish into streams, and butterfly releases. For water circulation and resource recycling, rainwater collection containers are being installed and rainwater usage expanded, along with promoting recycling separation and reducing single-use products to foster a virtuous cycle of nature and resources.
To promote the project, all residents wishing to participate can apply through the administrative welfare centers of each eup, myeon, and dong during September.
