Samsung to Create 40,000 Jobs Over 3 Years... Launching 'Super-Gap' Employment Initiative
20 Subsidiaries Hiring in Second Half... Over 7,000 Expected Mid-Year
Only One of the 5 Major Groups to Maintain Open Recruitment System
Using 'Metaverse' for Job Counseling to Connect with MZ Generation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung is set to take concrete steps to fulfill its new job creation plan to hire 40,000 people over three years. The company is making a significant move by expanding recruitment and strengthening communication with the younger generation who will lead its future.
According to industry sources on the 8th, 20 Samsung affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Samsung Asset Management, Samsung C&T, Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung Engineering, Samsung Biologics, Samsung Bioepis, Cheil Worldwide, S-1, Samsung Medical Center, Samsung Electronics Sales, and Samsung Welstory simultaneously posted announcements on the Samsung recruitment website and began open recruitment for level 3 (university graduate) new employees for the second half of this year.
This is the first open recruitment schedule since Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong was released on parole on the 13th of last month and announced the 'Post-COVID-19 Future Preparation Plan' promising to hire 40,000 people over the next three years, 11 days after his release. Samsung has not disclosed the exact number of hires, but the business community expects the recruitment for this second half to exceed the previous half-year figure of 5,000, reaching around 7,000.
Earlier, when announcing the Future Preparation Plan, Samsung stated that the usual hiring plan over three years is about 30,000 people, but it plans to increase employment by 10,000 focusing on advanced industries. Considering this, it is estimated that about 8,000 new hires each in the first and second halves of 2023 will be needed continuously to meet the target.
Samsung introduced the open recruitment system for the first time in Korea in 1957 and is currently the only one among the top five conglomerates to maintain it. The company has pledged to continue this system to provide fair opportunities and hope to young people and to ensure stability and predictability in the domestic recruitment market. In addition, Samsung is contributing to diversifying jobs through youth software education programs and internal and external startup support (C-Lab) projects.
Starting from this second half recruitment, Samsung is also attempting to build rapport with the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z). Samsung Electronics has introduced a one-on-one job counseling program using a 'metaverse (extended virtual world)' platform for the first time.
