SK Hynix to Recruit Handball Team for People with Developmental Disabilities Until the 18th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] SK Hynix announced on the 8th that it will recruit a 'Developmental Disability Handball Team' until October 18 to support the dreams and challenges of people with developmental disabilities through sports.
SK Hynix plans to select 8 teams and provide up to 16 million KRW per team annually for operating expenses, and together with them, promote the nation's first nationwide developmental disability handball league. The recruitment targets are welfare centers for the disabled, special schools, and businesses nationwide, with each team required to consist of at least 12 people with developmental disabilities. Applications and inquiries can be made at the Seowon University Disabled Sports Support Center.
SK Hynix confirmed that sports have a positive impact on the growth and social skills development of people with developmental disabilities through the handball class for people with developmental disabilities operated by the SK Hawks handball club and the handball team (Happy Moa Challengers) of its subsidiary-type standard workplace 'Happy Moa.'
SK Hynix planned this program to spread these successful cases nationwide and create opportunities to expand the base of handball. Seowon University Disabled Sports Support Center and the Community Chest of Korea, participating as partners, will respectively contribute to producing training manuals for disabled athletes and supporting operations.
Selected teams will be supported with uniforms, training equipment, and regular training through coaches. The plan also includes recruiting retired athletes with career breaks as coaches, providing them with opportunities to find jobs and fulfillment.
Along with the team selection, SK Hynix plans to hold an integrated game in the Cheongju area at the end of this year where disabled and non-disabled athletes compete together to raise interest in disabled handball, and next year, launch the nation's first nationwide developmental disability handball league. Furthermore, it aims to promote the development of developmental disability handball by establishing a handball event in the National Sports Festival for the Disabled, participating in the Special Olympics (Olympics for people with developmental disabilities), and more.
Moon Yoojin, Vice President in charge of Cheongju Support at SK Hynix, said, "Beyond creating jobs for people with disabilities, we will continue to strive to find practical alternatives that can contribute more substantially to solving social issues surrounding people with disabilities, such as this program that supports people with developmental disabilities to communicate with the world and grow as healthy members of society through sports."
