Gwangyang City Waterworks Local Public Enterprise Selected as 'Excellent Organization' in Management Evaluation
Outstanding Performance in Financial Operations and Tariff Realization Rate Sub-Indicators in the Management Performance Sector
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On the 7th, Jeonnam Gwangyang City Waterworks Local Public Enterprise announced that it was selected as an excellent institution by receiving a 'Na' grade in the '2021 Local Public Enterprise Management Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The local public enterprise management evaluation is conducted on 272 public enterprises according to Article 78 and Article 69 of the 「Local Public Enterprise Act」. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluates 159 institutions including nationwide metropolitan waterworks and corporations/organizations, while city and provincial governments evaluate 113 basic waterworks institutions.
The waterworks sector management evaluation assesses the 2020 performance of 113 basic waterworks institutions from March to July through on-site inspections of over 20 detailed indicators in three areas: sustainable management, management performance, and social value. Five grades are assigned, from the highest grade 'Ga' to the lowest grade 'Ma'.
In this evaluation, despite poor waterworks financial conditions, the enterprise achieved excellent results in detailed indicators such as financial operation and rate realignment in the management performance area.
In particular, in response to the prolonged economic downturn caused by COVID-19, water and sewage fees were reduced for two months for all citizens experiencing economic difficulties, receiving great support from the citizens.
Gwangyang City Waterworks Local Public Enterprise stated that it will continue to provide better water services for citizens by unifying residential water rates, expanding water rate reductions for multi-child households, and continuously promoting the improvement project of indoor water supply pipes in old houses.
Kim Se-hwa, head of the Waterworks Division, said, “The good results in the waterworks management evaluation are thanks to the employees who fulfilled their roles in their respective positions,” and added, “We will do our best to receive the highest grade 'Ga' in next year’s evaluation.”
