Sokcho City Creates 'Octopus Habitat and Spawning Ground' in Coastal Waters
Installation of 29 Artificial Reefs Scheduled by the End of December
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Sokcho City, Gangwon Province, is undertaking the creation of octopus habitat spawning grounds in the coastal waters of Sokcho Port to restore octopus resources.
According to the city on the 7th, the Gangwon Province Artificial Reef Management Committee selected artificial reefs suitable for octopus habitat at the end of June.
Subsequently, with a project budget of 160 million KRW, production of artificial reefs began this month, and 29 artificial reefs are scheduled to be installed by the end of December.
The creation of octopus habitat spawning grounds is a project to promote resource recovery by installing functional artificial reef complexes suitable for octopus habitat and spawning in coastal waters, and Sokcho City is launching this project for the first time this year.

Han Hee-su, head of the Marine Fisheries Division of the city, said, "We will continue to promote habitat environment improvement projects for octopus resource recovery, and will also conduct guidance and publicity such as prohibiting the capture of juvenile octopuses."
