Hapcheon-gun Selected for Safe Streetlight Plus Public Contest Project
42 Solar Streetlights to Be Installed in Vulnerable Areas by the End of This Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 6th that it was finally selected for the ‘2021 Safe Streetlight Plus Support Contest Project’ hosted by the social welfare corporation Milal Welfare Foundation and sponsored by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.
The Safe Streetlight Support Project is a project to install eco-friendly solar streetlights to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable areas. In this contest, 361 LED solar streetlights will be installed in 10 local governments nationwide that were finally selected.
The target sites for this safe streetlight installation project are a 1.3km walking trail around Hapcheoncheon and a 1.6km walking trail in Sinsoyang Sports Park. A total of 42 solar streetlights will be installed by the end of this year, and free maintenance services will be provided for the next five years.
The county expects that the installed streetlights will automatically turn on and off by detecting sunrise and sunset, and will stably improve the nighttime walking environment for residents and reduce electricity usage even during winter and the rainy season when sunlight is insufficient.
In addition, the Milal Welfare Foundation will also promote an emergency support project that provides 1 million won in medical and living expenses to 33 low-income households in the safe streetlight project target area.
