[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] The so-called 'Mud Max' video released by the Korea Tourism Organization is garnering intense attention.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization have been releasing the 'Feel the Rhythm of Korea Season 2' videos on YouTube since the 3rd. Previously, the 'Feel the Rhythm of Korea' series gained fame with the Seoul episode featuring singer Ilanchi's 'Beom Naeryeonda' video, as well as episodes showcasing various regional tourist spots such as Busan, Jeonju, Andong, and Mokpo, capturing unique visuals, lively music, and choreography, which became a hot topic.
Following that, 'Feel the Rhythm of Korea Season 2' meets the public with videos featuring even more diverse concepts. The Gangneung·Yangyang episode shows people enjoying surfing along the coast, while the Gyeongju·Andong episode features an Ogomu performance. Notably, the soundtracks of each video, produced with participation from Korea’s famous labels Hi-Lite Music and AOMG, blend folk elements with modern sensibilities, receiving high praise.
The newly released 'Feel the Rhythm of Korea Season 2' Seosan episode on the 3rd recorded 400,000 views within a day and 700,000 views within two days, drawing explosive reactions. The video depicts local residents of Seosan riding tillers across the mudflats to dig for clams. The title 'Mud Max' is inspired by the scene of dozens of tillers racing, reminiscent of the movie 'Mad Max: Fury Road.'
The production company introduced the video by saying, "Enjoy the collaboration of Seosan, a Korean tourist destination previously unintroduced, and hip-hop music reinterpreting the folk song 'Ongheya.'" They explained, "'Ongheya' is a folk song sung while threshing barley after harvest, characterized by a fast tempo and lively rhythm. Experience the grandeur of the 'Clam Troop' unfolding in Seosan’s world-renowned top five mudflats with both your eyes and ears."
