On the 4th (local time), Secretary Buttigieg announced this news through his Twitter account.
Buttigieg was the first U.S. cabinet member to publicly come out as LGBTQ+.
He came out in a local newspaper column in 2015 while serving as mayor of the small Indiana city of South Bend, and married Chasten Glezman, a teacher, in 2018.
Buttigieg posted a photo on Twitter showing him and Chasten each holding one child, smiling at each other.
He expressed gratitude for the kind blessings he received after announcing that he had become a parent and said he was happy to welcome the two children.
AP News reported that it has not yet been confirmed whether the children are twins.
The Buttigieg couple attempted to adopt a child earlier this year, but the adoption did not proceed after the birth mother changed her mind.
Buttigieg initially gained momentum during last year's Democratic presidential primary but later dropped out and endorsed Joe Biden after poor results.
