'Electronic Ankle Bracelet Tampering and Serial Murder' Kang Yoon-sung Suspected of Targeting Another Woman as Well

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Kang Yoon-sung (56), who was arrested on charges of damaging an electronic monitoring device (electronic anklet) and murdering two women, is suspected of attempting to commit crimes against another woman as well.
According to the police on the 2nd, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul confirmed circumstances indicating that Kang tried to commit crimes against another woman besides the two victims and is currently verifying the facts.
The police are conducting an investigation by analyzing data such as Kang's and the victims' bank accounts, communication records, and digital forensics.
Kang is charged with damaging the electronic anklet and fleeing, as well as murdering two women in their 40s and 50s.
On the 27th of last month, Kang damaged the electronic anklet and fled, but on the 29th at around 8 a.m., he drove the victim's car to the Songpa Police Station and surrendered, confessing to killing the two women. The police believe Kang's first crime occurred between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on the 26th, before damaging the anklet, and the next crime happened around 3 a.m. on the 29th, after fleeing and before surrendering to the police. On the 31st, Judge Shim Tae-gyu of the Seoul Eastern District Court, who is in charge of warrants, issued an arrest warrant for Kang on charges including murder, citing concerns that he might flee.

During the police investigation, Kang reportedly stated that the motive for the crimes was related to "financial matters." The victims were acquaintances of Kang, and the bodies were found respectively at Kang's residence and in the victim's vehicle. An autopsy concluded that the victims likely died from strangulation.
