Lee Jun-seok: "The highest council decided to remove the reverse selection prevention clause... The Election Commission has the authority to amend"
Lee Jun-seok Reaffirms New Doctor Jeong Hong-won... "No Controversy Over Fairness"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, reaffirmed his trust in Jeong Hong-won, chairman of the presidential primary election management committee, on the 2nd. However, regarding the primary rules, Lee stated that the primary preparation committee's proposal had already been approved by the Supreme Council, clarifying that the election management committee's authority to finalize the primary rules is limited.
On the same day, Lee appeared on YTN Radio's 'Hwang Bo-seon's Start of a New Morning' and expressed his position on the internal party dispute over the 'reverse selection prevention clause' in the primary rules. Despite some candidates raising issues, Lee confirmed his trust in Chairman Jeong.
He said, "People's behavior and manners change depending on what they wear. Just as merchants behave respectfully while doing business but act differently when wearing reserve forces uniforms, Chairman Jeong may say in casual interviews with the media that he hopes Yoon Seok-yeol and Choi Jae-hyung do well. However, since he is a legal expert and a senior who served as prime minister, we appointed him with the belief that he would not show bias when entrusted with an important role."
Lee added, "I have never shown bias in personnel or election management since becoming party leader, but I was attacked because of things I said before. Certain groups dug up my past remarks to attack me, and Chairman Jeong has faced similar attacks. The senior Chairman Jeong I know is unlikely to have fairness controversies," he said.
However, Lee also pointed out that the election management committee's authority regarding the primary rules is limited.

When asked whether the primary proposal made by the Primary Preparation Committee was approved by the Supreme Council, he said, "I preside over the Supreme Council, so I remember that the proposal prepared by the Primary Preparation Committee, including the primary schedule and debates, was approved as a whole. I recall that the survey including reverse selection supporters was explicitly included." He added, "Those who were not present at the meeting seem to have a different understanding. Chairman Jeong's statement about having revision authority does not mean he intends to overturn everything," he explained.
