Busan City announced on the 2nd that it formed the "Carbon Neutral Energy Innovation Promotion Council" on August 30th and held an online kickoff meeting, with full operations starting from September.
The newly launched promotion council includes regional industry-academia-research cooperation participants such as Korea Southern Power, Hanwha Solutions, Hanwha Energy, BNK Financial Group?who signed the "Business Agreement for Establishing a Hydrogen Economy Growth Base to Realize a Carbon Neutral Transition City" in July?along with Hanwha Aerospace, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, companies, universities, and related organizations.
The promotion council will actively pursue projects such as ▲establishing a hydrogen ecosystem including hydrogen energy production, storage, and utilization ▲creating green industrial complexes through the spread of solar power and fuel cells ▲research and development projects to secure renewable energy technology capabilities.
Additionally, the promotion council is organized into four subcommittees, each discovering and promoting projects within their respective areas.
Looking at the activities by subcommittee: ▲The General Support Subcommittee, centered on Busan City, will conduct one-stop administration including project site development, permits, financial support, and activities to secure resident acceptance.
▲The Hydrogen Production and Storage Subcommittee, led by Hanwha Solutions, will focus on green hydrogen production and storage, and the establishment of storage receiving bases. ▲The Hydrogen Utilization Subcommittee, led by Korea Southern Power, will develop hydrogen power turbines, expand fuel cell power facilities, and build mobility infrastructure. ▲The Industry and Workforce Development Subcommittee, led by Busan Technopark, will create hydrogen demonstration complexes, foster specialized personnel, and support companies.
Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, stated, “To realize a carbon-neutral transition city, a comprehensive restructuring of the energy system is necessary, and the launch of the promotion council is significant because change can be achieved when we unite our efforts.”
