‘Trendsetter’ Park Minji "Determined to Secure 7 Wins This Time"... What About Lee Dayeon?
KG·Edaily Ladies Open: Park Hyun-kyung and Oh Ji-hyun Compete for Victory, 'Renamed' Park Seo-jin Defends Title
[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] "I definitely want to win."
It is the 7-win challenge of the 'trendsetter' Park Min-ji (23, NH Investment & Securities). The KG·Edaily Ladies Open of the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour (total prize money 700 million won), held on the 3rd at the Turning Point Golf Club (par 72, 6,722 yards) in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, is a fierce battleground. Park Min-ji, who said, "I want to win as many times as possible this season," expressed her determination, saying, "Since this tournament is played over 3 rounds, I will focus from the beginning," and "I want to definitely win and take one step closer to breaking the record for the most wins."
Park Min-ji is the strongest player who has dominated the domestic stage this season. She joined the KLPGA Tour in 2017 and caused a sensation by winning the Samchully Together Open in her first year, and she has consistently secured one win each year until last year. This year, she has competed in 16 tournaments and demonstrated incredible power by sweeping 6 wins, including one major. She ranks first in prize money (1,256,560,000 won) and points for the Grand Award (484 points), second in 'Top 10' finish rate (65.25%), and third in average score (69.92 strokes), as well as leading in multiple wins.
However, her recent form has been somewhat sluggish. Although she placed in the top 3 twice in 5 tournaments, she also suffered the humiliation of missing the cut. Last week, she finished tied for 39th in the major Hanwha Classic. It is a crucial time to collect trophies to reverse the mood. If she wins, she will surpass the domestic women's single-season highest prize money record of 1,333,090,000 won set by Park Sung-hyun (28) in 2016. The single-season most wins record of 9, set by Shin Ji-ae (33) in 2007, is also within reach.
