[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] What happened to the academic records of former Minister Cho Kuk's daughter?
It has been revealed during the trial process that the university grade of Cho, previously announced by Pusan National University as 3rd place, was actually 24th place, and Pusan National University is now verifying this belatedly.
According to the court and media outlets, the university grade that was said to be 3rd place was actually 24th out of 30 students. The court also revealed that "if the forged career entries are removed from the application form's career section, it becomes blank."
Pusan National University confirmed that Cho's undergraduate grade being 24th is correct and stated that they are "verifying the facts" considering the possibility of administrative errors.
On the 24th of last month, Park Hong-won, Vice President of Education at Pusan National University, said, "Cho ranked 19th among the 30 candidates who passed the first document screening. Her previous university grade was 3rd, and her official English score was 4th."
Vice President Park added, "The Fairness Committee's analysis concluded that the false career and forged certificates were not major factors affecting admission decisions," and "It appears that Cho passed the document screening largely due to her previous university grades and official English scores, according to the Fairness Committee's investigation results."
On December 24th last year, the first trial court recognized all of the so-called "7 major specs" submitted during Cho's graduate school admission process as false.
According to the first trial verdict, Cho scored 19.5 points in the English section of the first stage screening. This corresponds to 4th place among successful candidates, which aligns with Pusan National University's explanation so far.
However, in terms of university grades, Cho received 14.73 points as a GPA score and 14.02 points converted to a 100-point scale, which the court stated corresponds to 24th place among the 30 candidates who passed the first stage screening.
This is a significant difference from Pusan National University's explanation of 3rd place.
It also differs from the verdict that the university claimed the self-introduction letter barely cited false career entries and the Dongyang University certificate content.
Cho listed the Dongyang University President's certificate award history in question 4 of the self-introduction letter, titled "Awards and Commendations."
Additionally, Cho enumerated various internship experiences in the career section of the application form and in the "Preparation Activities for Medical School Application" section of the self-introduction letter.
The first trial court stated, "Excluding Cho's false career entries from the application form and self-introduction letter, only one career remains in the application form, and the 'Preparation Activities for Medical School Application' section's first-year activities and the 'Awards and Commendations' section in the self-introduction letter become completely blank."
A Pusan National University official said regarding these discrepancies, "It is considered an error by the Fairness Committee's administrative staff."
It is also known that Vice President Park, who directly explained the false grades at a press conference, was greatly surprised.
The university headquarters of Pusan National University has officially requested confirmation from the Fairness Committee.
