The International Union of Marine Insurance is an international organization established in 1874 to promote the development of global marine insurance and build an international cooperation network. It holds an annual conference to review industry-related issues. This year, for the first time since its establishment, the union will hold the conference in Korea, and due to the spread of COVID-19, it will be conducted online.
The conference theme is 'The Road to the Future: Sustainability, Resilience, Innovation,' and it will review issues raised in the global marine insurance, shipping, and shipbuilding sectors and listen to and exchange opinions from various experts on development plans for the industry's future.
The event will begin with a welcome speech by Richard Turner, IUMI President, followed by congratulatory remarks from Do Kyu-sang, Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, and an opening address by Jung Ji-won, Chairman of the General Insurance Association of Korea. The keynote speeches will include presentations on carbon neutrality policies in the marine and fisheries sector (Kang Jeong-gu, Manager at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries), marine insurance law issues related to the Suez Canal incident (Professor Kim In-hyun, Korea University Marine Law Research Center), and Korea's autonomous ship technology (Lim Do-hyung, CEO of Avikus, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group).
Workshops will also be held by the 10 committees under IUMI, covering cargo, vessels, marine energy, loss prevention, and more.
