Genesis Ranks Among Top Premium Brands in U.S. New Car Quality for 5 Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Genesis announced on the 1st that it ranked 2nd among premium brands in the ‘2021 Initial Quality Study (IQS)’ released by the U.S. market research firm J.D. Power, achieving a top position among premium brands for five consecutive years.
This year marks the 35th edition of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, the world's most prestigious quality survey that began in 1987. It compiles customer complaints experienced within three months after purchasing a vehicle and expresses the number of complaints per 100 vehicles as a score, where a lower score indicates higher quality satisfaction.
This year’s survey covered 224 models from 32 brands, including 14 premium brands and 18 general brands, targeting new vehicles sold in the U.S. from November last year to February this year, and evaluated 223 items.
Genesis received a score of 148 in this survey, placing it behind Lexus (144 points) and ahead of Porsche and Lincoln, which tied for 3rd place with 163 points, by 15 points.
Genesis exceeded the premium brand average (181 points) as well as the overall brand average, including general brands, which was 162 points, maintaining a top position among premium brands consistently for five years since it was first selected for evaluation in 2017.
(Genesis was ranked 1st among premium brands in the Initial Quality Study from 2017 to 2020)
Additionally, in the segment-specific evaluation, the G80 was selected as 1st in the ‘Upper Midsize Premium’ segment and received the ‘Segment Winner’ award. The GV80 ranked 2nd in the ‘Upper Midsize Premium SUV’ segment and received the ‘Superior Quality Award.’
The J.D. Power survey results are actively used as a purchasing standard by U.S. consumers and serve as a key indicator to gauge the quality competitiveness of manufacturers. The company expects these results to play a significant role in enhancing the sales and image of the Genesis brand in the future.
