Opening of Gender Equality Week in the First Week of September, 'Towards a Better World, Gender Equality'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] To mark Gender Equality Week from the 1st to the 7th of next month, central administrative agencies and local governments, including the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, announced on the 31st that they will promote various commemorative events and projects under the slogan "A Better World, Towards Gender Equality" to reaffirm their commitment to practicing gender equality.
On the 31st, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will hold the "26th Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony" online. The ceremony will be conducted by broadcasting a pre-recorded video to prevent COVID-19 infection, introducing honorees who have contributed to the promotion of women's rights and the spread of a culture of gender equality, and reflecting on the meaning of Gender Equality Week through a theme video.
Minister Jeong Young-ae of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family expressed in a pre-released commemorative speech her "unwavering determination to realize a sustainable inclusive society where all members of society are respected and can share the fruits of social development." She emphasized, "In response to the prolonged COVID-19 crisis, we will actively address issues such as jobs and care, strive to enable young people to communicate and build consensus on gender equality, and create a safe society for both men and women."
At the ceremony, government awards such as orders of merit and commendations, as well as Minister of Gender Equality and Family commendations, will be presented to honorees who have devoted themselves to promoting women's rights and realizing gender equality. Lee Mi-kyung, chairperson of the Gender Equality National Assembly Advisory Committee, who will receive the Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaek Medal, is a women's rights activist who has devoted her life to enhancing women's rights through civic group activities and legislative work to achieve substantive gender equality. Ko Kyung-shim, director of the Association of Doctors for Humanitarian Practice, who will receive the Order of Civil Merit, Magnolia Medal, has made significant contributions to securing women's health rights and autonomy based on her expertise as an obstetrician and her commitment to improving women's working conditions.
Additionally, on the 2nd and 6th, the Ministry will release reports on "Gender Wage Gap in Listed Companies and Public Institutions" and "Women's Lives in 2021 Statistics," respectively. In October, a public forum will be held where young people will directly participate to discuss tasks aimed at realizing gender equality in areas such as work (labor), safety, and digital sectors, and improving the lives of youth.
Meanwhile, the National Women’s History Exhibition Hall will hold a special exhibition titled "Building the World? Reading Women's History through Cookbooks" starting from the 6th. On the 7th, the Day for Preventing Career Interruptions, a "Career Mentoring Concert for Working Women" will be held. This concert is organized to explore solutions to career interruption issues occurring at different stages of women's careers and to raise awareness of the importance of preventing career interruptions, featuring lectures and career mentoring sessions.

The Korea Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, an affiliate of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, will accept nominations for the "23rd Gender Equality Media Awards" from the 1st of next month until October 6th. Central ministries and local governments will hold commemorative events tailored to their respective circumstances to honor the significance of Gender Equality Week.
