GS25 Introduces Eco-Friendly Bags... "Annual Reduction of Approximately 9,000 Tons of Carbon Dioxide"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS25 announced on the 31st that starting next month, it will introduce eco-friendly bags that naturally decompose at all stores nationwide. Considering the situation of each store, vinyl bags and eco-friendly bags will be selectively operated, and the use of vinyl bags will be gradually reduced thereafter.
The newly introduced eco-friendly bags have received environmental label certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, an organization under the Ministry of Environment, and are made 100% from biodegradable materials that decompose naturally within 180 days when buried in soil, allowing them to be disposed of as general waste.
GS25 analyzed that replacing the approximately 230 million vinyl bags consumed last year with eco-friendly bags could reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by about 9,000 tons, which is equivalent to the effect of 1.4 million pine trees.
