Gwangju Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation Selects 'Scholarship Students' for Talent Development

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation is selecting scholarship students for 2021 to nurture outstanding local talents.

According to Seo-gu on the 30th, the Seo-gu Scholarship Foundation was established in 2015 and has raised a scholarship fund of 4.9 billion KRW through Seo-gu contributions and community donations. Until last year, a total of 480 students received scholarships totaling 480 million KRW.

This year, 18 high school students, 81 university students, and 5 out-of-school youths will be selected. High school students and out-of-school youths will receive scholarships of 500,000 KRW, and university students will receive 1.5 million KRW.

However, the living expense support type for university students is 1 million KRW.

The selection categories include ▲academic excellence ▲happiness (students from low-income families) ▲special talents (students with outstanding talents in arts and physical education) ▲special (students from large families, disabled, volunteer/filial piety/good deed, multicultural scholarship students) ▲disaster relief scholarships, etc.

In particular, considering the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic downturn, a new disaster relief scholarship category has been established to support children of unemployed or closed business parents who are facing financial difficulties.

Applicants must be residents who have continuously lived in Seo-gu for more than one year as of the announcement date, and their children.

Applications will be accepted in person from next month 6th until October 1st at the Dong Administrative Welfare Centers and the Education Support Team of the Seo-gu Office Education and Youth Division.
