Former Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Choi Jeong-ho Officially Announces Candidacy for Iksan Mayor
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Choi Jeong-ho (63), former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, officially announced his candidacy for Iksan mayor in next year's local elections.
On the 30th, former Vice Minister Choi held a press conference for joining the Democratic Party at the Jeonbuk Provincial Council, stating, "As a party member, I have been given two missions: to play a role in developing the party into one that is more loved and trusted by the people, and the development of my hometown Iksan."
In particular, former Vice Minister Choi expressed a strong will to run for Iksan mayor next year, saying, "It is urgent to provide budgetary, legal, institutional, and policy support so that Iksan City can be placed at the center of policies by the central government and Jeollabuk-do, and a person who can achieve this is needed."
Former Vice Minister Choi emphasized, "With the will and pioneering spirit of Bongsan Gaedo, which means making a road when meeting a mountain, I will contribute to the development of Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, and the Republic of Korea."
Choi, who entered public service in 1985 by passing the 28th Administrative Examination, served as Director of the Aviation Policy Office, Director of Planning and Coordination Office, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Deputy Governor for Political Affairs of Jeonbuk Province. In March 2019, he was nominated as Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport but voluntarily withdrew amid allegations of real estate speculation during the confirmation hearing process.
Thus, the competition for next year's Iksan mayoral candidacy is expected to be fierce, including incumbent Mayor Jeong Heon-yul, former Vice Minister Choi, Kang Pal-mun, President of Saemangeum Development Corporation, former Jeonbuk Provincial Assembly member Kim Dae-jung, Kim Seong-jung, representative of Iksan Growth Forum, former Iksan Mayor Park Kyung-cheol, former Jeonbuk Police Chief Jo Yong-sik, and Jeonbuk Provincial Assembly member Choi Young-gyu.
