View original imageSeoul National University of Science and Technology, a national university located in Seoul, will admit 1,503 freshmen through early admission, accounting for 63% of the 2022 academic year new students. The student record-based screening has been changed to a high school recommendation screening, and the proportion of regular admissions has increased, resulting in a decrease in the number of students admitted through the comprehensive student record screening. With the abolition of the essay test for the humanities department, the number of students admitted through the essay screening has also decreased.
The number of students admitted by each screening method is 433 (18.2%) for the high school recommendation screening, 785 (32.8%) for the comprehensive student record screening, 217 (9.0%) for the essay screening, and 68 (2.9%) for the practical skills screening. Except for the high school recommendation screening, there are no minimum CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) score requirements for all other screening methods, and multiple applications across different screening methods are allowed.
The high school recommendation screening selects students based 100% on student records. Applicants must receive a principal’s recommendation (up to 10 students per school). The minimum CSAT score requirement for the natural sciences department is a combined grade of 6 or better in two subjects among Korean, Mathematics (Type A), English, and Science Inquiry; for the humanities department, it is a combined grade of 6 or better in two subjects among Korean, Mathematics (Type B), English, and Social Studies Inquiry.
The School Life Excellence Screening selects three times the number of candidates in the first stage based 100% on documents, and in the second stage, final successful candidates are selected with 70% based on grades and 30% on interviews. The document evaluation comprehensively assesses the applicant’s personality, academic ability, major suitability, and potential for development based on student records and self-introduction letters. The interview evaluates personality, communication skills, logical thinking, major suitability, and potential for development through verification of submitted documents. The student record evaluation mainly reviews subject selection and achievement, extracurricular activities, and comprehensively examines school activities.
The Advanced Talent Screening under the comprehensive student record screening selects a total of 60 freshmen belonging to the College of Creative Convergence, including the Department of Artificial Intelligence Applications, Department of Intelligent Semiconductor Engineering, and Department of Future Energy Convergence. Anyone can apply as long as they have sufficient mathematical and scientific knowledge and can provide evidence of related subject activities and achievements, even without special accomplishments.
