Jang Sung-min "To Oppose Democratic Party + TK Lee Jae-myung, a People Power Party + Honam Candidate Is Needed"
Presidential Candidate Relay Interview ⑫ Former Assemblyman Jang Sung-min
"DJ's Spirit and People Power Party Are Identical with Zero 0.1mm Error"
"Will Complete DJP's Spirit of Unity"
"Will Add Centrist Reform and Honam to People Power Party"
[Asia Economy reporters Naju-seok and Geum Bo-ryeong] "If Lee Jae-myung, governor of Gyeonggi Province from Daegu and Gyeongbuk (TK), becomes the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, the People Power Party must also present a candidate who can compete against him."
Jang Sung-min, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party and former lawmaker, emphasized his strategic importance as the only opposition candidate from Honam in an interview with this publication on the 23rd. He said, "If a Yeongnam candidate emerges in the Honam party, they must secure a comparative advantage in this structure," adding, "I can attract support from Honam and moderate reformers. This is the plus alpha that the People Power Party desires."
Jang said, "Even though it is a political wasteland and like a desert, I joined the People Power Party because I understand the desperate longing that the entire opposition is looking for," and added, "Just as former President Kim Dae-jung cherished former President Roh Moo-hyun and eventually made him a presidential candidate, the People Power Party must recognize that the only Honam candidate is the alternative for expanding its base."
He found that possibility in the last party convention where lawmaker Jo Su-jin received the highest votes among the Supreme Council candidates. Jang said, "Jo, a former MBC anchor and spokesperson, received more votes than Supreme Council member Bae Hyun-jin, which was a promise to raise the Honam vote share to 25%," adding, "Even now, aren't they enduring former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl and former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung, who were yesterday's collaborators?"
Claiming to be the successor of former President Kim, he repeatedly emphasized that knocking on the opposition's door instead of the Democratic Party was "not a betrayal." He stressed, "Through the DJP (Kim Dae-jung + Kim Jong-pil) coalition, democratization forces and industrialization forces united and agreed to shift the paradigm to a new democratic nation." He added firmly, "Saying I moved from one side to the other denies the spirit of the DJP coalition."
Jang further emphasized, "The spirit of DJ and the People Power Party are exactly the same without even 0.1mm of error." He said that the People Power Party also upholds the values that former President Kim protected, such as democracy, market economy, productive welfare, and the Korea-US alliance. However, he criticized, "The Democratic Party only uses (former President Kim) as a banner but follows a completely unrelated policy line; everything is different."
