Real vehicle tests have proven that using eco-friendly lubricants improves fuel efficiency as well as reduces carbon emissions.
On the 27th, SK Lubricants announced that it confirmed the effects of reduced exhaust smoke and improved fuel efficiency in cargo vehicles using eco-friendly lubricants. Fuel efficiency improved by up to 3.1%. In particular, when measuring the scale of carbon dioxide reduction, the annual reduction per vehicle ranged from 1.4 tons to 2.8 tons depending on the vehicle weight and fuel consumption. A reduction of 2.8 tons of carbon dioxide is equivalent to planting about 424 pine trees.
In March this year, SK Lubricants and Hanjin Co., Ltd. signed a business agreement for an eco-friendly lubricant collaboration project to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cargo vehicles to strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. Since April, the two companies have conducted real vehicle tests on cargo vehicles using eco-friendly lubricants.
Hanjin Co., Ltd. used SK Lubricants’ ultra-low viscosity eco-friendly lubricants developed for large vehicles on a total of 20 cargo vehicles of three different types (8, 11, and 25 tons) for the real vehicle tests. SK Lubricants’ ultra-low viscosity eco-friendly lubricants for large vehicles such as buses and trucks improve fuel efficiency and reduce gas emissions compared to existing products.
Hanjin Co., Ltd. provided SK Lubricants with several months of driving records of these vehicles and driving records of cargo vehicles using regular lubricants for analysis. SK Lubricants analyzed the data received from Hanjin Co., Ltd. to evaluate the vehicles’ fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide emission results.

They expect to create a win-win effect by strengthening ESG management through establishing an eco-friendly logistics system while also reducing fuel costs for cargo transport workers.
In addition, SK Lubricants plans to launch a new engine oil for cargo vehicles that maximizes eco-friendly effects. Hanjin Co., Ltd. plans to cooperate by launching a purchase and exchange service for this product within the company welfare mall so that cargo vehicle drivers can use eco-friendly engine oil more conveniently.
Cha Gyutak, President of SK Lubricants, said, "I am very pleased that the collaboration between the two companies has resulted in actual carbon reduction outcomes," adding, "We will actively contribute to revitalizing the green logistics system by utilizing SK Lubricants’ eco-friendly lubricants."
