Middle School Students Caught Driving Stolen Benz Show 'Finger Gesture' During Transfer... Half Are Juvenile Offenders
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] Four teenage youths who stole an unlocked Mercedes-Benz vehicle and fled were caught by police about 20 minutes after the crime following a chase. Despite police officers knocking on the window and shouting for them to come out, they resisted for a while, and during the transfer to the police station, they showed no signs of remorse, even making obscene gestures toward the press.
On the 26th, the Ansan Danwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 24th at around 2:07 PM, four middle school students including A (a teenager) were caught in the act for stealing a Mercedes-Benz passenger car parked on a road in Danwon-gu, Ansan City. Among them, A (teenager) was arrested on charges of special theft.
They found the car with the engine running and the doors unlocked, drove it for about 2.7 km, and were caught by police who responded to the report within about 20 minutes. During the arrest, citizens reportedly helped by blocking the Mercedes-Benz vehicle they were driving with a passenger car and a taxi.
All of them were neighborhood friends, and during police investigation, they reportedly stated, "We wanted to try driving."
However, two of the four were not charged as they are considered juvenile offenders exempt from prosecution. A police official said, "Two of the four will receive protective measures as juvenile offenders, and one accomplice other than A will be sent to prosecution without detention." Minors aged 10 or older but under 14 who commit offenses are not held criminally responsible and do not face criminal punishment.
