5.5 Earthquake in Central Sulawesi Island, Indonesia... 1 Dead
At 10:14 a.m. on the 26th (local time), a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck central Sulawesi Island, Indonesia.
The exterior walls of several buildings, including houses and schools, were damaged, and so far, one fatality has been reported due to being hit by building debris.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 44 km northwest of Tojo Una-Una Regency in central Sulawesi, with a focal depth of 10 km.
The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) reported the earthquake's magnitude as 5.8 and the focal depth as 10 km.
Although no tsunami warning was issued, the shallow focal depth caused frightened coastal residents to rush outside and flee to higher ground.

A spokesperson for the disaster agency stated, "One person died after being hit by debris as the house shook, and we are currently assessing the rest of the damage."
