‘Doing’ Meets ‘Nanum’ … Dongmyung University and Nanugi World Present ‘Ensemble TU’ Performance Transcending Disability and Non-Disability
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] What if ‘Doing’ meets ‘Sharing’?
A special ensemble stage that ‘practices sharing’ will be set up by combining ‘Doing University,’ which pursues practice, and ‘Nanugi World,’ which carries out sharing projects to help people with disabilities.
The performance featuring professors from Dongmyeong University participating in Doing (Do-ing), and the Doing (Do-ing) president meeting young entrepreneurs, will take place on the Amos Art Hall stage at 7:30 PM on the 28th.
This performance is presented by ‘Nanugi World,’ a local youth enterprise supporting people with disabilities, ‘Ensemble TU,’ composed of professors from Dongmyeong University who love music, and Jeon Ho-hwan, president of Dongmyeong University.
Although held on a small scale in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, its significance is great.
The stage weaves together the meaning of encounters between people with and without disabilities, between enterprises and universities, and the special appearance of President Jeon Ho-hwan.
Despite difficulties such as COVID-19, heatwaves, and typhoons, young artists in Busan have shared their musical talents with people with disabilities to expand the base of local culture and arts.
On this day, they will share melodies through a piano quintet performing songs such as the art songs ‘Oppa Saenggak’ (Thinking of Older Brother), ‘Nae Yeonghon Baramdoeeo’ (My Soul Becomes the Wind), ‘Romantic Journey,’ and the movie OST ‘Scent of a Woman.’
Nan Haeri, CEO of Nanugi World, will play the violin, and young artist Kang Daehyun will be on piano.
Flutist Park Hyung-bae is visually impaired, and oboist Yoon Se-ho has developmental disabilities.
Members of Ensemble TU include Professor Son Il-moon from the Department of Automotive Engineering, Professor Yoon Jeong-jin from the Department of Early Childhood Education, Professor Jo Jun-mo from the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Professors Choi Eon-sook and Noh Yoon-jung from the AI Department. They are professors from various fields who did not major in music. Their love for music gathered scholars from different disciplines.
The bond of music transcended disability and non-disability, connecting everyone.
President Jeon Ho-hwan, upon learning of the meeting between Nanugi World and Ensemble TU, stepped forward this time.
President Jeon named it “a very meaningful Doing of service and sharing.”
He decided to make a special appearance in this meeting of practice and sharing. The ‘Doing President’ plans to perform the repertoire ‘Wish’ and ‘A Man’s Life.’
Despite the cultural and arts sector being hit hard by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, talented artists in the Busan area decided to join in and do meaningful service and sharing.
CEO Nan Haeri said, “I hope this ‘meeting’ will be a comfort to everyone exhausted by COVID-19 and other hardships, and remain a beautiful memory.”
She also said, “Through Nanugi World, I hope people with and without disabilities live together as a community,” adding, “We will strive to establish a foundation for talented disabled artists and non-disabled young artists in Busan and Gyeongnam to be more active in the future.”
CEO Nan was finally selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Disabled Culture and Arts Agency, and Busan Cultural Foundation’s program for discovering and nurturing cultural planners for people with disabilities, and arranged this meeting.
Nanugi World, which is based in Haeundae-gu Office’s ‘Youth Filling Space’ and carries out projects where people with and without disabilities harmonize through music and other cultural arts, is a youth enterprise founded by professional musicians to revitalize youth artistic activities in Busan, which have lagged behind.
The name ‘Nanugi World’ was given with the meaning of sharing talents with the world, regardless of disability or non-disability.
Nanugi World, together with young artists Kim Do-eun, Hwang Se-in, Kim Hyun-woo, and artists Park Hyung-bae, Yoon Se-ho, Kang Daehyun, uses all performance proceeds to discover and support disabled artists.
Nanugi World also operates the non-profit organization ‘Haeundae Orchestra,’ which works to revitalize youth arts in the Busan area.
