MBC Alum Kim Eun-hye "We Were Journalists"... A Sharp Remark on Politicians from Journalism Like Lee Nak-yeon
Park Byeong-seok, Lee Nak-yeon, Park Gwang-on Called
"Where Has the Original Intention in the Manuscript Gone?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party and former MBC reporter, criticized lawmakers from the pro-government bloc who were formerly journalists, saying, "If you were a journalist shouting for freedom of the press out there on the cold concrete, rather than a pro-government lawmaker defending the Moon Jae-in administration, would you really be able to vote in favor of this bill?"
On the 26th, Kim posted on her social media (SNS) a message titled "A question to pro-government lawmakers who were once journalists," mentioning Park Byeong-seok, Speaker of the National Assembly and former JoongAng Ilbo reporter; former party leader Lee, formerly of Dong-A Ilbo; and Park Gwang-on, a Democratic Party lawmaker and former MBC reporter.
She said, "We were reporters. We roamed the field all day and smiled at the truth we eventually found. We were also youth who poured boiling blood for those who had nothing and were deprived."
She continued, "The 'media reform' we pursued, which aimed to be weak to the weak and strong to the strong, was a goal we could embrace because we looked toward the lower places. The freedom of the press we fought for and protected is now, however, gone overnight. Is this relief bill really on the side of the powerless and weak that we sought to protect?" she criticized.
Kim stated, "'Pushing through with the power of 174 seats, labeling anyone not on my side as the great evil, and if unfavorable to power, imposing legislative violence by branding with intentionality, gross negligence, and fake news' ? is this the media reform you have pursued for decades? Is this really the media democratization you so longed for?"
She added, "Why do you want to join in blocking the press to shield the current power that will retire in nine months? Where has the original intention and meaning gone, the one you wanted to put into the manuscript for a just world?"
