Gwangju Dong-gu, Shared Yard Space Combining Books and Music Receives Positive Response
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) is receiving positive responses for the shared cultural space "Dong-gu Shared Yard," created near Dongjigyo (formerly Nongjang Bridge) for residents.
According to Dong-gu on the 26th, "Dong-gu Shared Yard" is a "space where books and music coexist," utilizing books owned by the Jisan 1-dong small library, which suspended operations due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and an abandoned piano, in collaboration with the Dong-gu Saemaeul Association (Chairman Park Heon-jo) and the Jisan 1-dong Welfare Community.
Since its opening under the old Nongjang Bridge on the 31st of last month, the Dong-gu Shared Yard has been frequented by students, residents, and office workers using the citizen-shared bookshelf, piano, and ice pack collection box installed in the yard.
During a time when face-to-face activities are difficult due to COVID-19, this cultural space near Pureungil Park, where books and music (piano) can be shared, is notable as a "3R Lifestyle Practice Yard"?Reduce, Reuse, Refurbish?aimed at creating a "Dong-gu-type Smart Green City," true to Dong-gu’s aspiration as a "humanities city."
A resident who passes by here daily said, "Pureungil Park is one of the paths I often take, and I’m really glad that a shared cultural space has been created in such a place," adding, "I plan to donate books that many residents can share and visit often while taking walks with my family."
The citizen-shared bookshelf is open to any resident passing by to read books and return them to their place, and donations of books to share with others are also possible.
The citizen-shared piano is also open for anyone to play, but usage is not allowed after 9 p.m.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "I thank the Dong-gu Saemaeul Association for promoting this innovative sharing project so that residents can take a short rest in the Shared Yard," and added, "We expect it to positively contribute to forming a humanities city community by sharing emotional culture through books and piano performances."
Meanwhile, Dong-gu will hold the "Dong-gu Saemaeul Association Small Home Appliance Sharing Yard" at the Dong-gu Shared Yard from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the 31st.
