Democratic Party's relentless attack on Yoon Hee-sook: "Did you use internal KDI information?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The relentless offensive by the Democratic Party of Korea continues against Yoon Hee-sook, a member of the People Power Party who submitted her resignation. There are suspicions that she may have used information obtained while working at the Korea Development Institute (KDI) for real estate speculation.
On the 26th, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Joo-min said at the party's policy coordination meeting, "Looking at the reports on the real estate purchases made by Yoon Hee-sook's father, the details are intriguing," adding, "How good must this land be for farming to have generated nearly double the profit in just three years?"
He continued, "According to the reports, in 2018, a real estate company introduced this land as having favorable conditions such as a subway station or nearby apartment construction. Many suspicions have been raised about the process through which Yoon Hee-sook's father purchased this land. Lawmaker Yoon must thoroughly clarify this matter."
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Sung-hwan also commented, "I would like to speak about Yoon Hee-sook's resignation show," stating, "How many people would trust that an 80-year-old father would farm land with no connections and spend the rest of his life there?"
He added, "During this period in 2016, Yoon was working at KDI in Sejong City, and KDI was conducting research on the development of a nearby industrial complex. Is it possible that Yoon used internal information from KDI to encourage her father to speculate on real estate, or that she supported speculative funds for her father or owned the land under a borrowed name?"
He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation by the authorities. Lawmaker Kim said, "Yoon owned two houses until her speech at the National Assembly plenary session while pretending to be a tenant. She once called a member of our party a real estate speculation genius, but in my view, Yoon herself is the real estate speculation genius. She is a typical example of double standards."
He continued, "At that time, the farmland purchase funds were known to be about 800 million won, but now the value has risen approximately fourfold to around 3 billion won. If Yoon claims she was unaware and bought the land to farm for the rest of her life, and therefore it is not real estate speculation, then no one in South Korea would have engaged in real estate speculation."
