Samsung Electro-Mechanics Hosts 'Metaverse Awards Ceremony' for YouTube Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 26th that it held the Samsung Electro-Mechanics YouTube Contest Awards Ceremony using the metaverse platform 'Gather Town.'

The awards ceremony held the day before was attended by 25 winners. Following last year, the second Samsung Electro-Mechanics YouTube Contest this year saw a total of 210 teams and 472 participants. Samsung Electro-Mechanics had employees from various generations, from the MZ generation to department heads, participate as judges, selecting a total of 13 teams based on criteria such as creativity, realism, and relevance to the theme: 1 grand prize team, 2 excellence award teams, and 10 merit award teams. Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to produce the winning entries as YouTube content and provide the grand prize and excellence award teams with opportunities to participate in the content production process.

At the ceremony, Samsung Electro-Mechanics President Kyung Kye-hyun made a surprise appearance, saying, "Due to the COVID-19 situation, it was difficult to meet and congratulate in person, so I am greeting you in the metaverse. It feels a bit awkward to offer congratulations in a virtual space, but it is interesting," adding, "Each and every submission was very moving, and through the original and brilliant ideas of the winning works, we will communicate more enjoyably with the MZ generation."
