"Learn ESG Easily with KT" Mini Lecture YouTube Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] On the 26th, KT released an ESG mini-lecture on its official YouTube channel, making it accessible to anyone interested in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
The mini-lecture is titled "Trends Changing Companies and the World, Now Do ESG," and is structured as a conversation between Professor Sangmyung Lee of Hanyang University's Business Administration Department and KT employees from the 2030 generation.
The main content covers the importance of ESG as a new paradigm in corporate management, examples of ESG practices by global companies, and ESG activities that can be easily practiced in daily life. For instance, it includes reasons why the eco-friendly global outdoor brand Patagonia ventured into the food industry. It also analyzes the downfall of Blockbuster, which almost monopolized the content rental business in the U.S. during the 1990s, from the perspective of corporate governance. The video runs for 19 minutes.
Alongside this, KT launched an ESG portal for its employees on the 15th. The ESG portal introduces non-face-to-face volunteer activities that employees can easily participate in and awards ESG points called "DigiKong" based on volunteer hours.
One DigiKong is valued at 1 KRW, and participating in one hour of volunteer work earns 6,000 DigiKong points. Employees can accumulate up to 50,000 points annually. The DigiKong points received can be donated by employees to a charity of their choice. On the KT ESG portal’s donation page, employees can donate any desired amount of DigiKong points to causes such as "COVID-19 Medical Staff Support Supplies" and "Special Masks for Children with Brain Lesions," or use them to purchase eco-friendly products like bamboo toothbrushes and soap.
