Jeonnam Province to Foster 'Traditional Sounds' as Future Growth Engine
Cluster Development Vision Symposium Held
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province has launched a ‘Sound Convergence Industrialization Project’ that combines sound source and audio industries to foster traditional sounds, a regional strength, as a future growth engine.
The province announced on the 25th that it held a ‘Cluster Formation Vision Symposium’ at the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute on the 25th.
Under the supervision of Professor Noh Sihoon of the Department of Cultural Studies at Jeonnam National University Graduate School of Culture, the ‘Traditional Culture Sound Convergence Cluster Formation Research Project’ is underway.
At the symposium, more than 30 experts from academia and related organizations in the domestic sound convergence field gathered to share the importance of sound, which is gaining attention with the development of media technology, and discussed ways to foster new industries through industrial convergence of sound resources owned by Jeonnam.
Dr. Song Yosep of the Korea Creative Content Agency emphasized the importance of securing sound resources such as discovering digital resources and constructing archives related to traditional sound arts and cultural resources in his presentation titled ‘Trends in the Korean Music Industry and Implications for the Sound Convergence Industry.’
Mr. Kim Kwanghoon of the Jeonnam Cultural Foundation suggested in his presentation titled ‘Current Status and Utilization Plans of Jeonnam Sound Cultural Resources’ that it is necessary to develop a sound culture city brand by utilizing Jeonnam’s rich sound cultural heritage such as Pansori, folk songs, and Nongak, reflecting recent popular trends and promoting effective marketing.
Researcher Park Dongbae of the Science and Technology Policy Institute attracted attention by advocating the need to create a sound convergence industry ecosystem through research and development, human resource development, resource accumulation, and new market creation by establishing the ‘Korean Sound Convergence Institute’ in his presentation titled ‘Direction for Establishing the Namdo Traditional Culture Sound Convergence Cluster.’
The subsequent expert panel discussion was chaired by Professor Kim Harim of Chosun University and included participants such as Moon Changhyun, Senior Researcher at the Gwangju-Jeonnam Research Institute; Professor Shin Chunsung of Jeonnam National University; Professor Ahn Namil of Korea University; Professor Yoo Daeyong of Chung-Ang University; Lee Kwangho, Head of Strategic Business Promotion Team at Jeonnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency; Lee Byungwook, CEO of Haenam Cultural Tourism Foundation; and Professor Jung Jieun of Chosun University.
During the discussion, opinions were presented that for Jeonnam to take the lead in the sound convergence industry, it is necessary not only to preserve Jeonnam’s traditional sound cultural heritage but also to have specialized strategies to industrialize and utilize it as tourism resources.
Jeonnam Province plans to reflect the symposium discussions in policy research projects and consult with the central government to have the ‘Traditional Culture Sound Convergence Cluster Formation’ project, which integrates traditional sound culture preservation, sound convergence R&D, sound content production and consumption, and tourism, selected as a national project.
