Gyeonggi Office of Education to Host International Forum on School Democratic Citizenship Education
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will hold the '2021 School Democratic Citizenship Education International Forum' on the 4th of next month.
This year's event will be held under the theme "Citizenship: How to Cross the Era of COVID-19."
Specifically, in Part 1, Professor Fernando M. Reimers of Harvard Graduate School of Education will deliver the keynote speech titled "Citizenship as the Foundation of Future Education Built on Solidarity and Empathy," and Professor Hong Seong-su of Sookmyung Women's University will serve as the moderator for the discussion. The event will be available for anyone to watch via YouTube and Edunity TV.
Part 2 will be an open discussion where participants will present on topics such as ▲Curriculum and Citizenship ▲Digital Civil Society and Understanding and Utilization Skills ▲Citizenship of Coexistence.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education plans to send participation links to those who apply in advance for their desired topics. Those wishing to participate in the Part 2 thematic discussion should apply by the 3rd of next month.

Kang Sim-won, Director of Democratic Citizenship Education at the Gyeonggi Office of Education, said, "Humanity has been prompted by COVID-19 to reflect on our entire lives," adding, "The international forum will be an opportunity to explore the role of citizenship education that schools should pursue for the future beyond national borders."
