On the 24th, Craig Spence, spokesperson for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), announced at a press conference that the total number of athletes participating in this Paralympic Games has been confirmed at 4,403. He added that this is a record-breaking number, surpassing the 4,328 athletes at the previous Rio Paralympics.
Spence said, "Considering the efforts made by sports associations around the world for athlete participation, this is an amazing achievement."
Among the 4,403 athletes participating in this event, 2,550 are men and 1,853 are women. The number of female athletes is the highest ever recorded.
The host country, Japan, has the largest delegation. A total of 254 athletes will compete in 23 sports.
Korea will participate in 14 sports including archery, athletics, badminton, boccia, cycling, judo, weightlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair tennis. The team consists of 86 athletes?58 men and 28 women?and 73 officials, making a total delegation of 159, the largest ever.
