Assemblywoman Shin Su-jeong Hosts Policy Debate on 'Vegetarianism, Food of the Future'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 24th, Gwangju Metropolitan Council member Shin Su-jeong held a policy forum titled "Vegetarianism, Food of the Future" in the Budget and Accounts Committee room.
Councilor Shin stated, "This summer was a time that personally made us realize the seriousness of the climate crisis," adding, "Through this forum, I hope that people will recognize that vegetarianism is not only effective in reducing greenhouse gases but also the most effective strategy to respond to the climate crisis, and that small practices for green eating habits will continue."
At the forum, participants including Jo Gil-ye, representative of the Climate Action Vegan Network, Kim Seon-gyeong, director of Krypton, Park Jae-woo, head of the City Climate and Environment Policy Division, Kim Hyun-jung, head of the City Agricultural Life Division, Choi Eun-soon, director of the Gwangsan District Out-of-School Support Center, and Moon Myeong-jin, CEO of Nenia Co., Ltd., delivered presentations and engaged in discussions.
They agreed that the various benefits of vegetarianism ultimately represent a win-win strategy for both climate and health, and proposed the need to create an environment in Gwangju where vegetarianism can be chosen as a response to the climate crisis, along with the activation of the vegetarian industry related to jobs and sustainable agriculture.
