[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The admission of Cho Mo, daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, to the Busan National University Graduate School of Medicine has been canceled. Accordingly, Cho's medical license will also be revoked.
Busan National University held a press conference at the university headquarters on the 24th and announced that it decided to cancel Cho's admission to the medical graduate school amid allegations of admission fraud. The university described it as an "unprecedented incident" in the history of Busan National University admissions.
Busan National University stated, "This decision was made after reviewing the results of the Admission Fairness Management Committee's internal investigation and the appellate court ruling on Professor Jeong Gyeong-shim."
The university also announced that after comprehensively reviewing the opinions of the relevant departments, it decided to cancel the admission to the Graduate School of Medicine for the 2015 academic year.
The cancellation of admission to the medical graduate school will be finalized within 2 to 3 months after going through a hearing process.
Cho's medical license, which can only be obtained with university or medical graduate school qualifications, is also expected to be revoked due to failure to meet the requirements.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare stated that since Busan National University has decided to cancel Cho's admission to the medical graduate school, once this cancellation process is completed, administrative procedures such as prior notification of medical license revocation will be carried out.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Busan National University's announcement revealed the results of the admission-related investigation and future measures, and the cancellation of the medical license requires the university's admission cancellation disposition.
After Busan National University’s cancellation of Cho’s admission, the process will proceed according to legally prescribed administrative procedures.
The administrative procedures include prior notification of license revocation and hearing the party's opinions.
Busan National University began an investigation into Cho's admission allegations by convening the Admission Fairness Management Committee on April 22 and directly heard explanations from Cho’s side through written statements.
Park Hong-won, Vice President of Busan National University, said, "This decision is a planned admission cancellation disposition, and the final confirmation is expected to take 2 to 3 months. Although the appellate court ruling, which is a factual judgment, was used as a basis, if the Supreme Court reverses the ruling, the disposition results will be reconsidered."
