[AK Poll] Opposition Rises for Yoon Seok-yeol and Hong Joon-pyo, Falls for Choi Jae-hyung
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] In the conservative opposition, the approval rating of Hong Jun-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, is steadily rising.
According to a poll conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting on the 21st and 22nd, when asked about the suitability of conservative opposition presidential candidates, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol had the highest approval rating at 28.8%, followed by Representative Hong Jun-pyo at 22.1%, former Representative Yoo Seung-min at 10.8%, former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung at 6.4%, People’s Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo at 5.8%, former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong at 3.2%, Representative Ha Tae-kyung at 2.7%, and Representative Yoon Hee-sook at 2.3%. Other figures accounted for 2.8%, none 9.5%, and don’t know 2.8%.
Former Prosecutor General Yoon’s declining trend has stopped and turned upward, while former Chairman Choi dropped by 2.7 percentage points compared to the first week of August.
In the case of Representative Hong, his approval rating rose by 4.8 percentage points during the same period, which was a larger increase than former Prosecutor General Yoon’s 4.5 percentage points. Among People Power Party supporters only, former Prosecutor General Yoon’s approval rating was 59.4%, far ahead of Representative Hong’s 14.2%, but Representative Hong received relatively high support from supporters of the Democratic Party (30.5%) and the Open Democratic Party (31.8%).

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters nationwide aged 18 and over on the 21st and 22nd, with 1,024 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.0%. The survey method was 100% wireless ARS using virtual mobile phone numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
